Crowtail Starter Kit Base Shield not working

We have the Microbit connect to our laptop via USB, but when we connect the Microbit into the Base shield in the Starter kit we lose power. It does however work when the Micobit is connected via the battery pack. Any ideas as to why this is happening? I cannot find any information online.

    Hi Osbornejeremy,

    Based on your description, here’s some information that may help:

    The Base Shield is designed to expand the interfaces but does not supply power to the Micro:bit. When using the Micro:bit with the Crowtail Base Shield, the Micro:bit still need to be powered. you can power Micro:bit either via a USB cable or a battery pack.

    Additionally, if you need to use the external power supply function of the green connector located at the top right corner of the base shield, you will also need to provide power to the base shield.
