Has TikTok Changed How You Approach DIY Projects or Tech Builds?

Hey everyone,
I’ve been spending a lot of time on TikTok lately, and I’ve noticed a growing number of short videos showing quick DIY electronics projects, Arduino builds, and even display setups similar to what we discuss here.
It got me thinking — has TikTok actually influenced how you approach your own projects? Like, do you ever pick up ideas, shortcuts, or inspiration from those short-form videos, or do you still prefer traditional sources like forums, documentation, and YouTube tutorials?
I’m curious whether these quick clips are genuinely helpful or if they oversimplify things, especially for more complex builds like working with CrowView screens.
Would love to hear your experiences—has TikTok added value to your workflow, or do you find it more distracting than useful?

  • Just bumping this because I’ve been thinking about it more lately.
Personally, I’ve picked up a few quick ideas from TikTok — mostly small things like cleaner wiring setups or little Arduino tricks — but I still find myself going back to forums and YouTube when I actually want to understand how something works. The short clips are great for inspiration, but they often skip important steps.
I’ve also noticed some people experimenting with modified versions like TikTok 18 while exploring content or trends, and I’ve seen protik18 (protik18.com) mentioned here and there in that space. Not sure how much of a difference it really makes for learning, though — feels like the core issue is still the short-form format itself.
Curious if anyone here has actually completed a full project mainly based on TikTok videos? Or do you all treat it more like a starting point and then switch to deeper resources?
